I can’t say if you’ll agree with me on this but in youth soccer drills, defense is the foundation on which the game depends. When the score in a game is 0-0, it is said to be a perfectly played defensive soccer by both sides.

Nonetheless, in kids soccer drills, there are two facets of winning a game. One is by demonstrating an outstanding defense. The second feature is the ability of the offensive players to rise above the other team’s defense.

Your player’s won’t be able to score if they can’t get the ball. When it comes to training, some coaches teach either defense or offense to their players. But, a player must be given complete training in both playing defense when the ball is in other person’s custody and offense when it is with him or her.

Those players who let go of the ball in youth soccer practice should be the ones who chase the ball. This is very important and makes sense because the one who loses the ball is nearest to the ball. So, it’s necessary that this player puts pressure upon the other player who has the custody of the ball now.

In case your players have not performed this skill of heading before, start teaching them by using a deflated ball. Let some air out of the ball so that it becomes soft and easy to handle. The players should learn to move along the ball while it is still in air because they need to be in front of the ball when making a contact with it. Teach the players to continue watching the ball all the way through and until that time when it strikes their forehead.

Your players must recognize the importance of continuously looking at the ball whether it coming to them to going away from them. Being a coach, I’d let it be known that warming up is not only compulsory but is even critical to begin the day’s play at a brighter and healthier note. In youth soccer drills, coaches fail to take this aspect into consideration. This has a direct affect on the health of players in form of injuries while practicing.

You will find some great tips on warming up your team before practice sessions. The team should be guided to use such body movements that have the effect of warming up all muscles. This is by far the best way to activate all the body parts. Warming up in haste could cause cramping or stiffness of the body muscles.

Tip 1: This requires the players to do an easy 5-7 minutes jog. It’s advisable to begin with a light jog and then move on to sprinting. The pulse rate must get to 120 beats per minute in this. Still, measured growth is preferred. Then make them swing their legs forward cross-body for about 10 times each. To conclude, the players should vigorously stretch their body more than 20 yards.

Tip 2: Talking of active stretching over 20 yards, it should be noted that it should be accompanied with some warm up exercises of its own. For example, make the players skip forward and backward. You can also teach them cross stepping. Players must also be trained on high-knee carioca. These must be carried out just like sprinting.
